ORIGINAL REVIEW AT: LITTLE BOOK STAR

This was such an amazing read! I felt like I was part of its world. It is told in first person point of view from our main character, America Singer. She lives in a dystopian world where they are numbered with ONE being the richest, and as the number goes down, so does your status. Once the girls turn 18 years old, they will be sent a letter to sign up for the The Selection and 35 of them will be selected, and one of them will become the princess.

I loved all the characters. You could tell them apart, and were realistic. I love Prince Maxon’s awkwardness and silliness , and I could see his point of how being a prince means your life isn’t automatically perfect. America was a great heroine. She’s confident, smart, and funny. Their personalities and the other supporting characters’ is one of the reasons why it made The Selection an amazing read. I also like how I could picture the palace and other settings that were in the book.

The only part that I was kind of disappointed to was the ending. I thought the author could’ve done a better job. There is also a love triangle which really made the story more interesting and it’s one of the reasons why I kept on reading. I love both of them (Prince Maxon & Aspen, America’s boyfriend) and I can’t wait to read The Elite! There were also a few twists in the book. I highly recommend this book. It is a light and fun dystopian novel that you could finish in one sitting. ( )

From the very start this book managed to grab my attention. Princesses and fairytales who doesn't love them I love reading these kinds of books, they are usually easy reads. Unfortunatelly, halfway through I started being annoyed by the characters, they were so indecisive. At one point I just wanted to start screaming at them why didn't they just make a choice damn it's not that hard! Due to this I can't say that I really loved it, yes it was easy to read; but is this a good or a bad thing?

The heart breaking -would never happen- love story at the start of the book broke my precious little heart. And after reading the first few pages you could almost immediately imagine how it was going to end.

And sorry if I offend anyone by saying this about our precious main character America, but how stupid can you be? You get royal life delivered to you on a silver platter and all you can think about is your ex-boyfriend who dumped you and who is poor as hell.

I normally go for the science-fiction/fantasy books, but when this one came along I had to give it a chance. I finished this book in a record time, maybe because I was annoyed and just wanted them to make some decision and maybe because I wanted it to be over so that everyone could have their happy ending. Could you imagine my disappointment when I found out it was going to be a trilogy. That means reading two more books with these indecisive characters, because of course I'm going to read them I really really really want to know how this story is going to end for America, our lovely prince Maxon and of course Aspen. You know what they say, once you start something..

Love,
Anne

at first i thought aspen was adorable but now im sure he's using Mer, plus he's getting on my last nerves. for fuck's sake just leave her alone so she can be with Maxon! ( )

Once again I was drawn in by a beautiful cover. The dress is gorgeous, the book was meh. At first it seemed like the story was really going somewhere, but about midway I realized that it was nothing new. Dystopian, check. Love triangle, check. Makeovers, check. It really IS a cross between the bachelor and Hunger Games, but like a restaurant that serves chinese and mexican food, does neither very well. It was light and fun and I would recommend it to a teen at my library, but for me it was just ok. ( )

I thought and thought about what I would say in the review of this book. So I liked it, I kinda get the whole Bachelor/Hunger Games comparison, but I think it had a little bit more depth then the Bachelor does, and not as much violence as the Hunger Games.

It actually reminded me more of [b:Violet Eyes: A Retelling of the "Princess and the Pea"|6609571|Violet Eyes A Retelling of the "Princess and the Pea" (Once Upon a Time)|Debbie Viguié|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1275670667s/6609571.jpg|6803537] which comprised of a competition just like this one.

Some redeeming qualities

I liked America, I think she is a great character in the making. I think I like Maxon too, but I am not 100% about him yet. Aspen just seemed like an big jerk, I don't know if there is going to be any change in him.

First words
When we got the letter in the post, my mother was ecstatic.  She had already decided that all our problems were solved, gone forever.  The big hitch in her brilliant plan was me.  I didn't think I was a particularly disobedient daughter, but this was where I drew the line.
