Luigi Sturzo aveva un sogno, trasformare il pensiero e l'atteggiamento dei cattolici italiani verso la vita moderna e i problemi sociali. Per realizzarlo fondò un partito che chiamò "popolare", non "cattolico", perché disse:"Il cattolicesimo è religione, è universalità; il partito è politica, è divisione".
