While I think Leunig’s cartoons are more consistently appealing than most, I did expect to find more than worked for me in this collection. Too many, including the title cartoon, seemed whimsical without anything much to say. There’s also, inevitably, some repetition of both his themes and his way of presenting them. Perhaps this becomes more evident when you get a series of cartoons together in a book rather than seeing them at most daily in a newspaper. And perhaps you can’t expect much more than the occasional cartoon to make an impact. ( )
