Darla Pettistone has inherited her aunt's bookstore as well as the too-clever "bookstore cat" Hamlet. At her first big store event, a popular author dies - is it on accident or murder?

This is an excellent cozy mystery. There is a famous author, an independent bookseller and a signing event gone horribly wrong. Throw in a sexy cop, a very independent cat (name of Hamlet), and a "lone protester" and you have the start of the story that is well written and keeps you reading to find out no only who dunnit but why.

There is a lot to love in this story. It is mostly set in a bookstore, a famous author is killed, a cat seems to be helping to solve the mystery (or is he), and there are more than enough suspects to go around.

I'll be looking for more from this author! ( )

A very enjoyable cozy of a mystery. Everyone seems to be gelling. No big heroics, no huge gaffes, Darla seems to have a brain in her head. Actually thinks and things to not just happen to her. Let's hope it continues in this vein. ( )

Bookstore owner Darla Pettistone is all revved up for her first big booksigning event with bestselling author Valerie Baylor. The YA paranormal author has a legion of fans, all of whom are lined up outside the store. All goes well until Valerie takes a break and ends up dead, a hit and run victim in the street. But was it an accident? The numerous associates in her entourage harbor secrets they wouldn’t want to get out. Did one of them silence Valerie, or was greed a motive? Or maybe one of the righteous protesters condemning her work could be involved?

Darla has her hands full running the store, chasing after Hamlet the cat, and convincing the police detective that she isn’t guilty. Can she preserve her store’s reputation by finding the killer?

This is an engaging debut mystery, especially if you’re fond of felines. ( )
