Ugh. After reading "Fifty Shades of Grey," I was in the mood for more smut. This one had good reviews and the price was right: 99 cents. All I can say is, I got what I paid for. This was absolute and utter crap. I think I read one chapter (up through the first sexual encounter); I have since returned it.

I simply could not suspend my disbelief enough to get lost in the story. I mean, really. You're having coffee with a guy you've never met. He propsitions you. You're insulted, so you get up to leave. He yells at you across the room, "SIT DOWN!" and you listen? You think to yourself, "Gee, maybe he's not so bad after all. I'm going to do what he says!"

I realize that smut/erotica is not typically based in reality, but this was just too much. Maybe it gets better, but I'll never know. I couldn't get into the book at all because I was too hung up on the implausibility of the whole situation.

I’m not completely positive, but I think I saw The Dom of My Dreams on another blog before I got it on Amazon. I may have just come across it when I was first going through my “HOLY CRAP I LOVE BDSM ROMANCE” phase. Either way, I thought it sounded intriguing. I wish it had lived up to my expectations.

The story is told by Margerie, an editor at a small publishing house. She is approached by David Seton, a best-selling author thinking of signing with her house. What he wants in return is quite unorthodox. He expects her to become his submissive while she courts him for the publisher. Margerie is appalled at first, or at least she acts like she is. However, she’s so intrigued with Seton that she takes his offer. Thus, her sexual fantasies are fulfilled as she is dominated a humiliated by Seton. I had a hard time liking Marjorie because she’s such a freaking mess. She’s selfish and has some major rejection issues. I never did warm up to her either because she was so completely oblivious the whole book. David, however, I liked most of the time. He had his own share of questionable actions. He did a couple of cruel things, but mostly I enjoyed him. I think he’s what kept me reading. Unfortunately, neither of them had the depth I was hoping for. I think that’s important in a BDSM novel because the relationships are so complex. The characters need to live up to that, and these two didn’t quite make the cut for me.

The plot seemed unoriginal to me. I think it had a lot of potential, but about half way through I started feeling like I’d already read the story. It way too formulaic. I’ve been spoiled by some really well-crafted erotic novels, and this one was just missing something. I wasn’t convinced. The ending was the killer. It was like a Christmas present, complete with the perfect ribbon and bow. It was far too mushy. It just completely ruined the feel of the rest of the book. I also think I need to mention the glaring spelling and grammatical errors I found throughout the book. There were enough that it was annoying and difficult to ignore.

I can’t say that I recommend this one. Sorry. ( )
