She's 33, unmarried, and stuffed into a Bubble Yum pink bridesmaid dress. And the whole town wants to fix her up with anyone with a dental plan . . . Who's going to rescue Sadie Hollowell now? Everyone in Lovett, Texas, knows Sadie has always been a "notional" kind of gal. She got a notion to leave town ASAP and never visit her daddy (bless his heart) again. Now she's back and got the notion to invite a good-looking, hard-muscled, total stranger to her cousin's wedding. Better a stranger than some of the losers she's dated. Vince Haven got his muscles the hard way-as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan. He's staying in Lovett to visit his crazy aunt-the proprietor of the local Gas and Go. Before he can get the heck back out of the small town, his aunt makes him an offer he can't refuse. Maybe he'll stick around Lovett for a while. Maybe he'll make a "go" of the Gas and Go. Maybe he'll rescue Sadie out of that pink dress!.… (more)

Rescue Me
4 Stars

Series note: This is book #2 in the Lovett, Texas series. It takes place 8 years following the previous installment, and aside from a couple of minor references to the characters, there is no other connection. That said, this book is also related to the Chinooks Hockey Team series. The hero, Vince Haven, is the older brother of the heroine in Any Man of Mine. While it can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the Chinooks book first. It one of my favorites in that series.

On to the review . . .

Rachel Gibson's writing is exceedingly engaging, and the quirky town of Lovett with its oddball residents and their crazy shenanigans makes for very entertaining reading.

Sadie and Vince's romance steams up the pages. While it is obvious from the start that their "no strings attached" relationship will develop into something more, it is fun going along with the ride as these two emotionally challenged people realize that their feelings for one another are more intense than expected.

My only issue, as indicated by other reviewers, is that the ending is somewhat abrupt and the book is in dire need of an epilogue.

In sum, highly recommended for lovers of small-town romances, snarky heroines and sexy former Navy SEALs. ( )

Rachel Gibson's books are a dependable guilty pleasure. They all run together a bit in my head, but are always a fun read. Rescue Me may have been slightly weaker than earlier books, but it was still pretty good. ( )

Some times when you're in the middle of reading a massive Neal Stephenson novel, you need a change of pace, and this is pretty much the exact opposite of a sci-fi tome. Not my usual style, but a fun fluffy contemporary romance. ( )

This didn't have the usual Rachel Gibson spark for me. Vince was actually kind of dull and Sadie never really struck a cord with me either. Sadie and Vince didn't spend nearly enough time together to develop the emotion and spark I like to read between two characters. Missed the witty banter that is usually present in a Gibson book. ( )

Rescue Me by Rachel Gibson (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Kathleen Early
Series: Lovett, Texas #3

This is the first book I have read by Rachel Gibson and it won't be the last! I laughed, and sighed and was intrigued enough to keep listening till it was over. Vince and Sadie were a great match together, both looking for nothing and found something. Their banter was terrific right from the start and I loved how Sadie kept adding more texas slang to her vocabulary the longer she stayed.

The narrator was easy to listen to and had enough voices that I could differentiate between the characters, I would gladly listen to her again. ( )
