Narciso fue el fruto de la unión entre Liríope y el Cefiso (ésta no creyó a Tiresias cuando le dijo que éste la poseería); el mismo adivino vaticinó que Narciso moriría “sólo si se llega a conocer”. Era muy bello y muchos le amaron, pero él era altivo y soberbio. Se cuenta que la ninfa Eco (que sólo podía repetir lo que los demás decían por castigo de Juno, ya que la distraía mientras Júpiter se iba con sus amantes) le vio y se enamoró. Sólo pudo repetir lo que decía Narciso, quien se sorprendió al verla, y huyó, humillándola. Un día, Narciso vio su reflejo en un lago y se enamoró de sí mismo (al principio pensaba que era otra persona), acabando convertido en flor. ( )
