This is a very short history of nine communities, one valley, and a dam in the Palo Verde Valey of Arizona and California, put together by the Palo Verde Historical Museum & Society. Each entry is given a half-page to two-page historical summary, typed on a standard 8 1/2 x 11" leaf. Such a short space, of course, leaves very little room for the sort of historical facts and anecdotes that tend to make local histories charming. This is surprising, given the area's history as a mining center and its importance to the Bradshaw Trail. Also, no sources are cited, and there is no bibliography. This little booklet will be of some interest to the casual reader with no knowledge of the region, which, in all fairness, is whom it was probably written for. But it would behoove the serious reader to look elsewhere for a history of the Palo Verde Valley region. ( )
