Considering this was a 99¢ Kindle purchase, it was very worthwhile. The stories (a couple of which, like "The Crystal Crypt," I had already read), are really a mixed bag, some of them (for example, "The Skull" and "Second Variety") coming to very predictable conclusions. Others, though were quite worth the read -- "The Variable Man" in particular, and to a lesser degree the rather charming "Mr. Spaceship" -- and such a mixed bag is probably typical of any anthology.

Despite the dated premises (e.g., stories in which references are made to past wars with Martians), the plots are often strong enough to hold up even today. ( )

His stories are interesting and usually have a "twist" somewhat reminiscent of the Twilight Zone. As in any collection, some are better than others, but all are worth reading. ( )
