Where had her husband hidden their money? If he wasn't dead, Rachel would leave him this time for sure. Without the money, she'll lose her only asset, the half-built house on the hill outside Maystown, Arizona. The only man who can help her is the surly ex-cop who owns the ranch next door. Gary is reluctant to get involved with the woman who backed into his truck, but she desperately needs his help. He strikes a deal - his investigative skills in exchange for Rachel's cooking. He intends to find the money quickly and get the rude woman out of his life, but things get complicated. Gary discovers Rachel's husband hid more than his money. His entire life was a lie. Rachel's vulnerability tugs at Gary's heart. He's been lonesome since his wife died, and he wants to keep Rachel at the ranch, but the truth about the past could tear them apart. An ARe Cafe top pick for May, 2011.

This sweet love story shows you don’t have to be in your twenties to find romance. These forty-plus characters are strong and believable. Rachel is trying to recover her balance after a long, loveless marriage to a controlling man. Gary is a long time widower who has no intention of getting married again. Neither one is looking for a new relationship but that doesn’t stop it from happening, just like in real life.

Ms. Fineman has woven together a great story with characters you’ll love. The growing romance is compelling. The mystery begs to solve happily, but the problems keep piling up. The secondary characters really help to pull the story together — Gary’s son Joe, Mitch’s missing son, and the local gossip/crazy lady who has been obsessively chasing Gary since a single date in high school. She’s determined to keep Gary and Rachel apart, no matter who she has to hurt. The loyalty, integrity, and sense of family are so strong you’ll want to be part of it all. This is romantic suspense at its best. This is one you’ll want to keep and reread.
