Then she stumbles onto a most unusual way to use her skills: shooting prom pictures. She and her boss -- her married boss -- William, click immediately, together for night after night of capturing kids in their ill-fitting tuxes and taffeta gowns. Before long, Iley and William are partying post-prom, and there begin the secrets. And a situation that leaves Iley and her creativity in the dark.
But there's hope yet, in the form of a mysterious female prom-goer who helps Iley get things back into focus. She'll have to give it her best shot -- but there's plenty of reason to hope Iley might be developing into something soon . . .
This is the third novel by my friend and boss, Eugénie Olson. I squirmed at Iley's reckless tumble into an affair with her married boss, and got a kick out remembering my own prom. It's comforting, in some way to see that things haven't changed much in the last 20 years!
As usual, Eugénie's relaxed, comfortable humor pulls you right inside the main character's head and understand her logic, even when she's doing things that are clearly going get her into major hot water down the road.
I see a future for this book in some other medium, possibly one involving movie cameras and actors. (
