This is a pretty kickass book. I mean, it's pretty simple and straighforward: engravings from the late 1600s of the clothing and costumes of people around Europe and parts of the Middle East. The detail is great; looking at Luyken's engravings one can get a sense of the weight of the fabrics and intricate embroideries, but the sheer variety of people in the books - clergy, soldiers, peasants, and royalty - make it an excellent resource for anyone interested in fashion history.
Due to the nature of engraving, the images are black and white. So I imagine that, if one wanted, this could even be used as a coloring book. ( )
