None. I love the high quality of graphic novel, but I just can't get into them much anymore. This could be a potentially tough read for teenagers as it is an adult graphic novel, but I could see a select few handling it's complex story line and mostly adult subject material. Would recommend to mature, fairy tale minded teens. ( )Fables continues to be one of my favorite GN series. Didn't love the side-story about Bufkin, but loved following the adventures/growing pains of Snow and Bigby's cubs. Plus, who doesn't love an interesting plot twist? After The North Wind's death, a replacement must be found among his grandchildren and the tests will reveal much that wasn't previously known of the cubs' personalities. Rose Red is taken on a "Christmas Carol" journey to find out what it will really mean to be one of the Hopes. One of my favorites in the series - I do love the cubs and their storylines - and I especially enjoyed finding out which cub is finally chosen as the new North Wind. Rose Red's journey is also great and I'm looking forward to seeing how she will deal with the promise she makes and who is hiding behind the shadows (I hope my guess is right!). This is the 17th book in the Fables series and picks up after the battle with Mister Dark. It was a decent installment in the series and I enjoyed it. We see a lot of little snippets of different stories here, so it is a bit of a transition book. In this book we start to see a number of new storylines starting up. The Fables are trying to rebuild their lives. Buffkin is trying to start a rebellion in Oz. A new North Wind must be chosen, and the ex-nurse Spratt is honing her fighting skills to revenge Mister Dark. A lot is going on in this book, it was an enjoyable read but a bit piecemeal. You get quick snippets from all the different stories. The storyline that gets the most attention is the choosing of the new North Wind. We get to meet the other winds and watch as Snow and Bigby’s children compete to be the North Wind. Amidst that North Wind storyline we see the Fables rebuilding and Buffkin started a rebellion in Oz. A lot of time is also devoted to Nurse Spratt as she trains to take on a new identity and revenge Mister Dark. It seems like she will be playing a large role in future installments. There is also Christmas special in which Rose tries to decide what type of Lady of Hope she will become. As with previous books the illustration was wonderful and in keeping with the story. Overall a solid addition to this series. I enjoyed the North Wind storyline and am curious where the storylines featuring Buffkin and Nurse Spratt are going. Recommended to fans of urban fantasy graphic novels. Reason for Reading: Next in the series. The main story being told in this issue is the titular story in which an heir to the North Wind must be found. This becomes the beginning of a new story arc that will carry over now in which the cubs will feature more as main characters. Throughout this story there are also various sideline stories as well: one of major note follows Bufkin in the new land of Oz carrying over from last volume and is proving interesting. Also of smaller note both Rose Red and Miss Sprat have their own storyline as well. This arc leads us to many new beginnings (since much was wrapped up last volume). Not a lot really happens though, not much excitement or reveals but storywise things are being set up for the new story arcs. After this main portion of the book we are treated to two smaller stories. The first is a Christmas issue which takes Rose Red out in search of finding Hope in a cross of Dickens' A Christmas Carol and The Cricket on the Hearth. Finally, the end section is a series of small vignettes which tell tales from "In those days" back to the times before or during the rule of the Adversary. Most of these have nothing to do with the overall story arc, but they do tell interesting little tidbits of background information and there are a couple which hint at what is in store for a couple of characters further down the line. Overall a passable issue, but nothing really happens, except for finding the heir to North Wind, as this is otherwise a set-up issue for the new paths the story will be taking. no reviews | add a review Contains
