Théophile Gautier est un auteur du Parnasse.A l'instar de Charles Baudelaire et de Villiers de L'Isle-Adam ( pour n'en citer que quelques-uns), il rompt totalement avec le Romantisme.Désormais,l'auteur est un sculpteur qui est davantage préoccupé par la plastique que par l'esprit et Les Contes et Récits Fantastiques de Théophile Gautier reflètent parfaitement l'état d'esprit de ce mouvement littéraire méconnu.Pour lui, la femme ne peut être sublimée que par la mort (La cafetière,Omphale).Ce recueil de nouvelles est agréable à lire et nous apporte des connaissances sur une période de l'histoire littéraire où le fantastique a une place primordiale. ( )
