This story is one of growth. This book shows readers several things. They learn how to care for a growing pumpkin patch. It also shows readers an A through Z list of all the creatures that can be found on Patty’s farm. This would be eye opening to children who live in larger cities who have never seen anything other than a dog and never gave a second thought about where the pumpkins they carve come from. The images in this book are rich with color and are the typical images you would find in children’s picture books.

Details: This bok was written to interest children in grades K-3 and is on a 3.0 reading level. ( )

Patty's Pumpkin Patch is a good book to introduce the fall season. Patty grows pumpkins, she plants the seeds in the spring, and takes care of them through out the summer. The pumpkins grow just in time for Halloween where she sells them to families so that they can decorate them and make jack-o-lanterns.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0399230106, Hardcover)

Patty's pumpkin patch is a surprisingly busy place all year long. There's plowing and planting in the spring, weeding (and lots of growing!) in the summer, and much more than just picking pumpkins in the fall. For within the patch, creepy-crawly, furry, and feathered friends from A to Z are always on the move, keeping Patty company and watching her work.

The perfect lead-in or follow-up to a visit to a pumpkin patch, Teri Sloat's bouncy verse and vibrant, detailed artwork make this an outing kids can enjoy any time of the year
