Four young ninja receive a mission to capture the legendary Scythe of Quakes from an army of evil skeletons and must learn to work together to master the art of spinjitzu. Adapted from the animated television series, this early reader pairs stills from the show with uninspired text that tries too hard to be humorous through the use of anachronistic expressions. The illustrations leave much to be desired too. Many of the images are oddly blurred in an attempt to create depth, and dim lighting and poor composition do little to make the images appealing. The Lego characters themselves offer few poses and expressions and so do not convey the story well visually. This reader will appeal to fans of the Ninjago series but is unlikely to win over any new fans. Libraries that provide popular titles should nevertheless considering order copies as the popularity of the television series will create a high demand for these books among fans, and librarians should even be prepared to order replacement copies as the thin paperback covers will likely be creased or damaged. Recommended, with reservations, for readers age 6 to 9. ( ) no reviews | add a review
