A very nice illustrated book which explains greeting to children. It explains that there are many ways to say "hello" and "good-bye". "Hello! Good-bye!" could be a good book to teach children social skills and also to introduce them to different cultures and languages. In my opinion the explanations combined with a story would be more interesting for children. ( )

HELLO! GOOD-BYE! is a great book to use to teach students the importance of saying hello and goodbye to one another. In kindergarten, I teach my students the concept of hello and goodbye when we discuss letter writing and sending mail. This book is a much better example of the concept of hello and goodbye then the book my program uses. Throughout the book, the author uses different genders, races, ethnicities, and cultures to show the concept of saying hi and bye. The use of different types of people helps children to see that everyone throughout the world says these two words. This book is also well written in a story narrative format. Students will not realize that they are reading a nonfiction book. I will use this book as a read aloud in my classroom to supplement the books that are included in my kindergarten program. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0688143334, Hardcover)

Hello. Good-bye.
Every day we use these words.
In one way or another we say
them again and again.
We say "hello" when we meet.
We say "good-bye" when we part.
They are a beginning and an end.

Who but the incomparable Aliki would be able to take these two simple words and show us that they are filled with possibilities. There are many different kinds of hellos -- and just as many good-byes. And each can be filled with excitement and surprise. Start reading-and say hello to fun!
