In m early choirboy days the concept was vaguely puzzling to me. Later with the experiences of wokring under the direction of a colourful collection of choirmasters and organists, I became more puzzled -- How and why did the idea of heavenly choirs singing night and day non-stop for ever and ever, become so very attratvie to generations of hymn writers?
