None. I didn't like this book as much as book 2. Book 2 is a must read. ( )********5 stars******** Gist: The story follows the lives of 18-year old high school student Layken [Lake for short] and 21-year old Will. I really don't have any words to write actually because this book left me utterly speechless!! Literally. I mean how can you do justice to a girl who not only lost her father but had all of life ripped from her??? And a boy who not only had to sacrifice his own desires for the sake of his baby brother but also had been forced to grow up at a time when other guys his age were probably chilling out and enjoying their lives! This book takes us through a journey which shows us the real value of life! It takes us through the story of 2 ordinary but really brave people- Lake and Will. It shows us how after losing her father, Lake's family moves to Michigan to start their lives anew and upon finally experiencing some happiness, Lake comes to know that her mother has cancer and is soon going to die... Not only that, even Will refuses to take their relationship forward because of their circumstances i.e him being her English teacher at school. Characters: Layken- Lake wasn't my fave type of protag because like many weak characters she "chose" to pretend that her problems didn't exist! She "chose" to ignore the fact that although her life was miserable, there were probably people out there who were in worse conditions! She ignored the fact that life moved on and how much ever she thought life was unfair, it had probably been more fair to her than the more unfortunate ones. However our lead heroine did conquer her problems in the end. And beautifully for that matter. She understood that when life closed one door of happiness, it opened another! The strong, sensitive, passionate and understanding Lake at the end was our true protag! Will- Well even though it's kind of rude to swoon over a guy in such an emotional book, I definitely reserve a moment to fangirl =P "OMG! Will is kind of definitely one of God's gift to us girls!!! I mean where the hell do we find such a hot, sexy but at the same time gentle and romantice guy who writes poetry these days?!?!!? I want one too!" Back to the topic Will was amazing! Cannot think anything else to write right now. :P Completely Hated: 1. The insta-lovish start this book had. 2. Layken acting like Will was her everything after knowing him for only 3 days and behaving pathetically by thinking about Will the whole day at school instead of trying to make friends or getting settled in school. There is a life beyond just guys for god's sake! Conclusion: Loved this book despite some of it's flaws. It really reminded me of Coincidence Of Callie & Kayden and Pushing The Limits! Although one thing I noticed was that this book was full of Love. I mean whatever the scene might be- fights, normal talk, grief--> every single thing in this book was because of one emotion- LOVE ! It was really beautiful somehow! Amazing Quotes: -->“I got schooled this year by a boy. A boy that I'm seriously, deeply, madly, incredibly, and undeniably in love with. And he taught me the most important thing of all... To put the emphasis On life .” -->“One million fifty-one thousand and two hundred minutes That's approximatley how many minutes I've loved you It's how many times i've thought about you How many minutes i've worried about you How many minutes i've thanked God for you How many minutes i've thanked every deity in the universe for you. One million Fifty-one Thousand And Two Hundred Minutes One million fifty-one thousand amd two hundred times. It's how many times you've made me smile. How many times you've made me dream, How many times you've made me believe, How many times you've made me discover, How many times you've made me adore, How many times you've made me cheris, My life. .... And exactlly one million fifty-one thousand and two hundred minutes from now, i am going to propose to you, and ask that you share all the rest of the minutes Of your life, with me.” Review to come very shortly! This story blew me away, I laughed, I cried and my heart was broken, then fixed again! This and other reviews can be found on my blog :(un)Conventional Bookviews. *I received a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review* Really enjoyed it, fast read If there's one thing I hate more than the dreaded love triangle, it's insta-love between two characters. This left me with an automatic bias against this book, one that I never could quite recover from. The grammar mistakes didn't help matters (another pet-peeve of mine), and neither did the fact that I really couldn't see what was so great about Layken. She was, well, kind of a jerk most of the time and more than a bit selfish. She did improve somewhat toward the end, but not enough to erase from my mind how she had acted throughout the majority of the novel. *sigh* I wish I could like this book as much as most everyone else seems to, but I just can't. I'm okay with being in the minority, though -- not every book will be for every reader.
What I loved about this book so much was seeing young adults step up, take responsibilty and actually having a conscious. My preconceived notion with all YA books is that all the books just focus on teens who are either selfish or are weak and stuggle with self-esteem. I forget sometimes that there are books out there that focus on young adults who deal with raw and real situations. It's nice to read a story about a girl who cares and loves her family deeply. A girl who doesn't instantly put the boy above all else (ok....Lake did have her weak moments but she bounces back and redeems herself). It was also nice to see a great male lead who was genuinlely kind, caring, responsible and showed a great amount of love for his own family. Will isn't perfect, he still has his bouts of jealousy and short-temperedness, but for a guy at his age, he's pretty swoon worthy. FULL REVIEW ON OUR BLOG
