Bethany Boudreaux doesn't regret becoming a Lady. She adores the toys all her newfound money can buy. She likes watching the fear in others when she enters a room. When she thinks about her boys, the two most powerful bachelors in the country, she becomes giddy enough to kill. Life is definitely good, until a chance encounter. Now Beth is desperately trying to help others in difficult circumstances. Philanthropy is not her forte. She devises a plan and waits for the right moment to make her move. It wouldn't be so hard, a piece of cake really, if her boys cooperated ... no questions asked. Yet her boys are becoming difficult with every breath they take while her determination to get what she wants grows to the point of urgency. Failure is something she isn't use to and she'll obtain their cooperation, at any price. No library descriptions found. |

Beautiful Tears continues the story of our spitfire DeDe witch, Lady Beth Boudreaux, five years after the first book, A Lady of the Realm. She has grown into her role as Lady and alloidal of Lord Aleksander (Sasha), and into her relationship with both Sasha and Lord Malachi. When her men are gone with the Court convening, she has to deal with a relentless human, Michael, from the House of Fimbria, and she agrees to go on an undercover mission to investigate the disappearance of several faeries from Malachi’s region. From there, the action is non-stop as we find out the nefarious reasons for Michael’s attempts to antagonize Beth and the cruel plot behind the faeries’ kidnappings.
Mamolo once again pens a well-written, fast-paced book with our snarky and loveable protagonist. I thoroughly enjoyed the growth of Lady Beth into her role as a fighter for suffering low-caste supernaturals, but she still maintains her edgy and sarcastic personality. Beth’s interactions with Sasha and Malachi are even steamier and the tension with Sasha’s mate contract continues to build into a surprising and poignant ending. In addition, Mamolo successfully integrates the secondary characters into the story with all the twists and turns, and I was eagerly anticipating the next passage. I especially loved Beth’s relationship with Sig and their protectiveness of Michelle. Michelle’s transition to a normal life from that of the previous book was positively heartbreaking. Furthermore, I found myself absolutely detesting Katie from the beginning of the book, but eventually understood her motivations by the end of the story as did Beth. Definitely never a dull moment in the book!
Overall, Beautiful Tears was a real page-turner (I finished this in two sittings) and a satisfying sequel, revealing more complexity of the characters, as well as leaving an open question setting up the third book, Blood for Barter. I would highly recommend this to fans of the first book (certainly won’t be disappointed) and to fans of adult paranormal romances, including the Monere series by Sunny and the Lupi series by Eileen Wilks.
