One of my favorite books when I was a child. Short bios of fifty interesting Americans from the past. Explorers like John Charles Fremont and Robert Peary. Inventors like the Wright Brothers and Thomas Edison. Soldiers like John Paul Jones and Ethan Allen. Writers like Harriet Beecher Stowe and Ernie Pyle. Musicians like Victor Herbert and George M. Cohan. Sports stars like Knute Rockne and Lou Gehrig. Squanto, a Native American. Medical people like Walter Reed and Clara Barton. Plus Harry Houdini, Patrick Henry, and many others. Great book to get teens and preteens interested in history. ( )
