I love this series. The characters are strong and brave. I am able to relate to most of their personalities and, in my mind, they look just like friends or family members. Couldn't put it down. World War III has begun, and ended. Now the few survivors must do what it takes to survive, including running from those left in the government. ( )

Book 1, in the Life After War series

In “The Survivors” we follow a group of individuals struggling with different trials and tribulations after a nuclear war. Many of its subplots are an adventure journey, with a supernatural affair. This story is magic and reality blended into a post-apocalyptic fantasy….well I think……

When I saw this book I obviously didn’t pay full attention to the summary. I admit to have loved the idea behind the story but in hind sight I should have simply overlooked it knowing from the get-go that I am not strong on apocalyptic novel especially one with a fantasy twist to it ….but unfortunately I didn’t and I downloaded it without second thought.

As I plugged along trying to piece what I was reading and the efforts it took trying to make sense of what was going on soon became an ordeal. To top it all after a few hours with it I couldn’t even remember much of what I had read. The end of the World full of apocalyptic horrors is definitely not for me. It was by far time to give up on it, I had wasted enough time on this confused and incoherent story I couldn’t make much sense of….. I dropped it mid-way the first portion, something I rarely do. I leave this collage of mismatched stories for others to enjoy.

This is one tedious book better left on the shelf. ( )

I have a few horrible habits: One I am a one-click rebel and click on everything. I also do not read reviews because I wish to form my own opinion of a book. This one both happened and I was truly disappointed in the entire book. I may not have wasted my money on this book but I did waste time a whole lot of it. I thought that this book had many flaws and the only thing good about it was that it was free. (It is my fault for having a one-click problem so I can't blame the author or anything else for this problem).

So what bothered me about this book:

I hated Adrian with a passion. I don't care if I had just survived a war or anything else I would not want a pig-headed leader like that. I think that he was the cause of so many problems and he was rude, sexist, and a true .....Hole. Don't get me wrong sometimes I like them in a book when I can see the good in them or when they have a reason to be like that but in this case he was just nasty and I would have murdered him myself if I could have. The next thing that truly bothered me is that I hated Angela. I thought she was a crybaby and in so many ways annoying as all get out. The story may have been decent without the in the story.

I think that the author tried. Real hard. But in my eyes and maybe in only my eyes it failed. So you read it and let me know how you feel.

This is a very dark book, describing a reality that everybody wishes to be just fiction, but that the author brings with such vivacity that we feel like we are living the situation. Plot can be resumed in a few words: survivors struggle to adjust to the new world order. All the radiation emitted causes mutations on animals and sickness on people. Among the survivors we have a woman searching for her son that call for help of an old boyfriend, that turns out to be the real father of her son. He is a marine, as well as her current husband. Other parallel stories are developed, but the central one deals with survivors that are grouped in a community called Safe Heaven in search for a new place to establish themselves. But there are also the bad guys that are trying to take advantage of everything in this new lawless world.

I recommend this book to the permanent library of any reader that loves a well written book full of action. I bought this book from Amazon.com. Opinion expressed here is my own. ( )
