This book publishes a selection of essays by secondary school children, of those collected on invitation by The Observer in December 1967, constituting (from book jacket) "a passionate and sustained attack upon our present educational order... The writers demand to be allowed to think, to encounter head on the raw material of learning, to be at risk, to escape from boredom into the joy of discovery, to be partners in their education."

Forty years later, I'm sure the system has met some of the demands of students then, but there are significant elements as yet unmet and I wonder has the question been asked since? Are today's schools what today's children would want?
