I enjoyed this book for the local inspiration of Otto's Bookstore. ( )

Th Book Lover focuses on the stories of two women, one a book seller and the other a fledgling writer. It follows the ups and downs of their careers and love life in a predictable way. The story moves along quickly and is fairly engaging, but neither the characters, plot, or language are anything special. ( )

I did like this book and found much in it that I loved-ie the bookstore and the background of a writer trying to publish. I liked a little less the veteran/eagle/divorce/love angles. Ruth was a great character, as was Lucy (I just liked Ruth better). ( )

What a fabulous book by Maryann McFadden. The story of the woman who owns the book store called The Book Lover and of a woman whose dream has always been to write a book is so well written. These two women meet and spend months intertwining their lives. The story of two ordinary women working to achieve their dreams is truly one good read. I hope to read more of Ms. McFadden's books. THE BOOK LOVER by Maryann McFadden is an interesting story for book lovers everywhere. With its complex, emotional characters and a chance for second chances what’s not to enjoy. “The Book Lover” is the story of Lucinda Barrett and Ruth Hardaway, one an author, one a bookseller. Their betrayal by loved one’s,dreams, broken promises, secrets, bird refuge, friendship and new love. This is compelling, heartfelt story of love lost and found again. Their friendship, struggles, and what a little white lie may just destroy. A wonderful story that will hold your interest and your heart. Received for an honest review from Helly & Hall Book Publicity, the author’s website,Three Women Press and My Book Addiction and More.

Ruth Hardaway has had one passion all her life: books. For thirty years she's devoted her life to her book store, trying to bury her painful past. But now the store is in jeopardy, and the past is catching up with her. Lucinda Barrett lost everything in a life-shattering betrayal. Desperate, she goes after one last dream - to be an author. Alone and broke, she embarks on a journey, eventually landing on Ruth's doorstep. Ruth takes Lucy under her wing, championing her book and even offering her refuge at a nearby lake cabin. In return, she wants Lucy to keep an eye on her son, Colin, who's recovering from a war injury. As the two women grow closer and begin to face the past, neither has any idea that their toughest decisions lie ahead - or that their friendship is about to fall apart because of a little white lie.
