A second volume of Superman stories from the early 1960's, some written by Jerry Siegel, Superman's creator. The stories are marked by a decided lack of attention to scientific principles, rules of logic, stiff dialogue and emotion, and outlandish storylines. And yet, I confess to a certain affection for these stories, which are the earliest I remember reading as a youngster. The most obnoxious story is one which illustrates Lois Lane's shallowness during this period, as she is suddenly hesitant when Superman loses his powers and proposes to her, wondering if she would be happy with an ordinary man. Then later when he regains his powers, she's back in the throes of super-lust. Pathetic. ( )
