I remember there being swordfights between angels and demons in Piercing the Darkness and This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti... ... got toward the end and couldn't stand it anymore. I'll probably rewatch it after I read the book, haha.
I just finished Piercing and it wasn't as heavy as In the Miso Soup, but there was a passage that nearly made me cry because I'm very fond of rabbits. ):
@37
Yes, it does. If I find ... 18. Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti
I enjoyed this book about as much as the first book, This Present Darkness. There were some continuing characters: angels, demons and humans. Peretti is a pretty good writer and one of the few that approaches the spiritual realm in this way. Ben Cole
fictitios character in Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti. 2. Piercing the Darkness by Frank E. Peretti: four and a half stars. ... his stuff though, and have read everything by him. I read Peretti's early, well-renowned books (This Present Darkness, Piercing the Darkness) and while they were definitely 'forces of darkness' types of books, it didn't really bother me because a) they were the first of their kind, and b) ... ... then not being able to sleep for the rest of the night, and when I did, I had terrible nightmares. I never ended up reading Piercing the Darkness for that very reason. Such powerful books, but my goodness, not a great choice for a late night and an overactive imagination. ... every event -these things create a marvelous novel that I recommend to all really.
9 - This Present Darkness and 10 - Piercing The Darkness by Frank Peretti
These are old favourites, ones that I read whenever I need some spiritual nourishment in the form of fiction. The writing isn't ... ... Thoene's work though (the series starting with Vienna Prelude) - very moving. And I loved This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, but that's about it.
I haven't myself read Flannery O'Connor, or even heard of her, TT. I'm not very knowledgeable on Christian Fiction, really. Had lots going on and fallen way behind, so I'll pick this up again next year..I've barely been reading, and this has sunk into the land of non-read threads anyway. :)
... you don't come away with something you want more of. That said, I own a mess of it -- LOL
Some examples would be:
Piercing the Darkness by Peretti
Love Comes Softly by Oke
Left Behind by LaHaye
Costain's The Silver Chalice is another book which I would put more with The Big F ... Those Christmas book tokens got spent on:
Lust, Caution by Eileen Chang
Piercing by Ryu Murakami
A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo
Erasure by Percival Everett
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now by Andrew Collins
and perhaps best of all
... Sounds like Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti. He first wrote This Present Darkness but I think Piercing was a scarier book.
