( )A ramble by a giant of wine writing. Hugh Johnson's books have been trail blazing, his wine atlas was a revelation. He's had an interesting life, done a lot. He is knowledgable about wine and imparts his knowledge in a readable way. But this limp = albeit well illustrated -- biography is short on details, opinions and facts. It hops from one impression to another without ever seeming to fix on iany of them. What was being on the board of top Bordeaux Chateau really like and what work did it entail and what was the real reason he left? We don't find out. How about the Royal Tokay Company, the ST Wine Club?? Maybe Hugh is saving his real memoirs to be published after his death. no reviews | add a review
