Dogs want to be loved, and flourish best when guided by a firm hand so they can love and respect their owners in a secure relationship. Most dog faults can be traced back to a lack of firmness in training and various weaknesses and neuroses on the part of the owner. The well-trained, obedient dog that knows what is expected of them is happier and a more pleasant companion than the spoiled disobedient dog of an over-sentimental overindulgent owner. Ms. Woodhouse demonstrates these concepts through many anecdotes of her experiences as a dog-trainer. The writing style is a bit rambling and at times feels rather repetitive. Although there are a few "how-to" passages, much more of the book is devoted to the discussion of root causes of dog behaviour. ( )

This method is based on the use of a large-linked choke chain. The dog is trained by a sharp jerk on this chain. I find it frightening and I am glad dogs can“t read it.

Book description

Amazon.com (ISBN 0671541854, Paperback)

According to the late Barbara Woodhouse, there are no difficult dogs, only inexperienced owners. In No Bad Dogs she propounds her outspoken beliefs about dog behavior; having trained more than 17,000 dogs and their owners, Woodhouse knows of which she speaks. She isn't shy about condemning bad owners, firmly believing that dogs reflect their masters, habits and all. But this highly regarded book doesn't dwell on the negative; it suggests positive and simple training techniques for any owner and offers hope for all types of dogs, ranging from the chronically phobic to the severely jealous. No Bad Dogs is illustrated throughout with case studies of cured canines.
