This book is a collection of Dave Barry's best and funniest columns. They range from hilarious to quite serious and cover every subject imaginable. He talks about a science fair project with ants for his son's school, snakes and other animals coming out of toilets, loud passengers on airplanes, pop-tarts blowing up toasters and setting houses on fire, boating trips to Bimini, UFOs in Florida, circumcision, Zebra mussels in bras, burglar alarms, criminals in New York, worst songs and lyrics, dating, Elvis' fans, grammar, teenagers at home alone, communication between men and women, communication with teenagers, yearbook photos, biking accidents, lawn mowers and even about Hong Kong and China. All in all a very funny book. Some columns are longer, but most are only about 3-4 pages long. It's the perfect book if you need something lighter and funnier. Or don't have a lot of time and read in snippets. Dave knows how to take an ordinary every-day situation and turn it into something funny, or even ludicrous. Sparkling anthology of very funny feature articles by the engaging syndicated columnist. A collection of amusing anecdotes from the American writer, humorist and columnist Dave Barry. He finds all sorts of weird, crazy, stupid and funny stuff that people do, say or come up with all across the United States of America, and puts them into print. Dave doesn't mind a drop of the droll, Dave doesn't. no reviews | add a review
Amazon.com (ISBN 0517595745, Hardcover)The title, as Dave Barry admits, is not entirely accurate. To be sure, this collection of articles does contain what the Pulitzer-Prize-winning author calls "an unusually high (for me) level of factual content." But there is also an abundance of goofy reportage, fart jokes (see "It's A Gas"), and Barry's long-overdue thoughts on natural childbirth.(retrieved from Amazon Fri, 24 Apr 2009 07:58:24 -0400) The first test round has been closed. But of course, the staple of any Dave Barry book is the zany humor, and it is plentiful here, including among many other classic columns the infamous "Bad Song Contest." If you are a Dave Barry fan, you will enjoy this book, and if you haven't discovered him yet, this would be a fine place to start. (
