Other than the creepiness factor of an 80 year old guy falling for a teenager, (excused only by the magic of Xanth youthening him to what's merely an uncomfortable 20something, and the fact that the young characters in his book always act and talk like 30 year old women, except momentary "Look at me being childlike" bits...), this is not a bad book. The adventure on this one is a bit better than the last few, and the competition was cutely, if predictably, done. My main problem ends up being that this wasn't as cotton candy as the average Xanth novel, actually. The last several have been progressively less silly, almost growing macabre at points. Given the age and health issues of Piers, though, this isn't surprising, just a bit sad. ( )

It's been years since I've read a Xanth novel, so it was fun to go back to a world visited in my youth and groan over the use of some silly puns. Cute story about an 80 year old Mundane, Bryce, who lands in Xanth as part of a Demon quest for the hand of Princess Harmony. Silly, but pleasant read. ( )
