My personal response to the book: The book is excellent. It illustrates and teaches young readers not to give up on things and instead to keep trying.
Curricular connections: Curricular connections include: Native American, persistence and not giving up on things you want to accomplish. I have already personally purchased this book for my own personal collection. It will be a great book for my Native American unit and will help me accomplish the Montana library standards for teaching about Native Americans.
