As I started this book I felt a little bit of that drag from the last book because of its introduction of the "Guardian Council" that simply did not sit well with me. This volume does openly interestingly because it does not focus in on Emily, which many of the previous volumes have done. This focuses highly on the newest villain in the series. While we are shown that the group is preparing for "battle" we start to also get some of the layers of other elements to finally unfold. That entire "Guardian Council" fiasco seems to have been diverted in my opinion as this book moves forward in a manner that escalates the story into a new direction that we did not see coming. We discover another villain has been contained within the series since page one and we discover some interesting new facts about the prince of elves that makes him a more likable character in my opinion. This series to date has had a lot of hits and one miss, but this is squarely in the hit section (once you get through the first 1/4 of the book and it moves into the part that is no longer about the Guardian Council). Fans of Amulet will be pleased with this volume as it feels a little more like Kibuishi remembers now what made the first few books so good. They had heart and so does this with enough mystery to make you want to continue reading further. ( )

I've always been somewhat of a fan of this series simply because of how easy it is to read these, while the art tells a lot of the story. Much like Kibuishi's other work, it is very easy on the eyes with beautiful artwork and simple dialogue. ( )

This is the fifth book in the series and a giant battle takes place. The elf kings army goes to war with the resistance. A giant array of vehicles fights against Kronos a giant of imense proportions ( )
