I did not find the book focusing on true "vintage cakes" as much as I would have liked. ( ) I picked this up from the library because Julie Richardson is a local author and bakery cafe owner. Lovely traditional cakes. I like more pictures than provided but the photos that were included were beautiful. That whole section for layer cakes. Yum! 65 different recipes. Reminds me of The Back In The Day Cookbook by Griffith and Cheryl Day. I need to coif my hair, don a frilly apron, and bake in heels and pearls....this one is a lovely gift or a keeper for the baking enthusiast. ps. this author also co-wrote a rustic fruit desserts cookbook. I remember those hand pies from Farmers Market. To. die. for. I generally don't think of cake first when I'm looking for a dessert recipe. Compared to cookies or bars or even cheesecakes, they seem like so much more work. Julie Richardson's Vintage Cakes may just change my mind. She starts this cookbook with the easy recipes like Texas Sheet Cake and Blueberry Cornmeal Skillet, moves on to everyday bundt and icebox cakes and before you know it, you're rolling a sheet cake around a ganache filling or putting together a multi-layer confection. Truthfully, I'm not sure how many of the recipes in the latter part of the book I'd ever try, but there are plenty of easy and delicious-sounding treats in the front to keep me busy. no reviews | add a review
