What to say about Richard Corben? His career spans thriller comics, gothic horror, graphic slasher horror, sci-fi, fantasy, erotic art, collaborations with writers, his own stories. The stories are sometimes hoaky, pun-based twists, sometimes genuinely terrifying, always drawn in an art style that swings curiously between beautiful, realistic painting and bizarre, childish anatomy. One thing it never is: boring. ( )

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher. I did not get paid for this review.

I did not know what to fully expect when I started to read Creepy Presents Richard Corben. Of course, I knew it would be horror but it gave me more of a Tales from the Crypt vibe and that was unexpected. That means it is a combination of horror and humor which combines to be creepy. There appeared to be a moral to some of the comics shown in the book, some a little contrived such as the monster that fed off anger and animosity and was brutally killing people. I liked the story but I wasn't overly impressed by it. The drawing of the comics leaves something to be desired. Its gritty which matches the horror theme but I'm not sure if it is due to the quality of this digital copy but the images weren't very clear. The writing is a bit elementary so I think this would be a good comic for teenagers and young adults especially those into the morbid and black humor. I give this comic 3 out of 5 stars. ( )
