8/10, after reading the runaway success that was Legend made by the same author I was hoping that the sequel would be just as good if not better and wow was it a thrilling read from start to finish, I was figuratively on the edge of my seat and this book was such a ride, where do I begin? It starts off from the last book with June Iparis and Day Wing arriving at Vegas after escaping from the events of Legend however I noticed that this isn't the Vegas I know; it's full of military buildings rather than casinos and hotels like here which is interesting but understandable. Suddenly during the equivalent of the Old American Pledge of Allegiance, the Elector Primo dies and Anden his son immediately replaced him and this is where June and Day split off, I liked seeing the backstory of this world, the Republic and the Colonies of America and the other countries. June thinks Anden isn't so bad of an elector after all when he repeals some laws much to the Senator's disapproval and chagrin however Day still thinks he's like his predecessor and so the Patriots led by Razor try to assassinate him. At the last minute, Day botches the attempt, changes his mind and there's a big plot twist where Razor was working for the Republic of America trying to kill Anden and this wraps it up in an epic ending. I can't wait to read the next book after this called Champion, the other three books were so good so I have high expectations for that book and I hope that would be just as good if not better. ( )

(SPOILERS!!)

NOOOOO!!!!!

DAY IS NOT DYING!!!! HE'S NOT DYING. HE'S NOT DYING.
I loved every single thing about this book. I love that Day and June had REAL LIFE problems with their relationship. Tess' character evolves soooo much from Legend to Prodigy. I can’t say I loved her, mostly because I resented the truth bombs she dropped into Day and June’s relationship, but I feel like she’s a more 3D character now.

Kaede! I absolutely loved her in this book. And I will admit, I cried when she died.

Usually, I find the second book in a trilogy to be kind of a 'filler' but Prodigy was PERFECT and had me on the edge of my seat to the very end.... speaking of the end, NOOOOO! DAY CAN NOT BE DYING!!!!!

Okay...give me a moment to compose myself (I can't stop crying). The ending is so heartbreaking.

Sooo, I know I said I wanted the romance to slowly develop over the course of this book, buuuut that didn't happen. Instead we get some bullshit June-is-in-love-with-Day-but-intrigued-by-Anden and Day-is-in-love-with-June-but-thinks-himself-inferior-and-kinda-lusts-after-Tess-instead-because-she's-safe-and-everyone-ships-them. UGH NO. It should've been "I shouldn't trust you but for some fucking reason I do and awww shit now it's the end of the book and I realize I'm in love with you" not "I should trust you because I love you but I don't because our relationship is crap". Disappointed.

But we did get a glimpse of the rest of the world!! And it's confirmed, we're totally looking at the US, rolling our eyes going "ehhh, you're on your own now, we done with you". Loved it. Loved that we're not just assuming the rest of the world has disappeared or are worse off, but instead we actually know that nope, you fucked this up yourselves. Mostly. Except natural disasters. Karma's a bitch or something.

I have no idea what book three is gonna be about? I feel everything almost wrapped up by the end of this one, but it's kinda interesting that we're doing new things all the time. Seeing them working inside the system is really gonna be interesting, though maybe they'll give up in the end and riot. Probably not. ( )

Well that was an excellent follow up that allowed us to delve deeper into this interesting world!

I liked that we got more insight into our two main characters and I appreciated the increased level of action in this sequel. On to book 3! ( )
