Loading... Wilde's Fireby Krystal Wade
A review will be posted by weeks end. ( )I received a copy of Wilde's Fire courtesy of NetGalley Kate has been having the same dreams for the past 6 years. All have the same man, Arland, and deal with daemons, death, and distruction. Only problem is, Kate hasn't ever met Arland. Yet she is somehow in love with him. Upon a camping trip with her sister and best friend Brad, they stumble upon a portal into another world. A world that Kate's parents fled from after receiving Kate's prophecy... I really enjoyed Wilde's Fire! It reminded me a little of Graceling, a little of Eragon, but was more original than most of the other fantasy stories I've read lately. The writing was great, and the characters as well. I didn't want the story to end! I can't wait to read Wilde's Army, and get deeper into Kate and Arland's story. 4.5 starsKate -Katriona- Wilde goes for a hiking trip in the forest with her best friend Brad and her sister Brit, only to find herself transported in a mysterious land filled with darkness and terrifying creatures attacking them. After being rescued by the locals, Kate discovers the truth about herself, something her mother never told her. She has a legacy, a prophecy to fulfil that could mean life or death to Encardia, but might break her own heart as the man she's been dreaming about since she was a teen, the man she meets in Encardia and yearns for, is not the man she's promised to marry. As time goes by, Kate learns more about Encardia and her people, falls more for Arland and he for her, and learns that she has a few powers of her own that she needs to be practicing real quick, if there's any chance of defeating the evil. But most of all, she must hide who she is from Perth, the man she's been promised to since birth. There was a lot of things to like in this book: Kate, was a strong heroine, neither too bitchy or too cold, and easy to care for. She adapted a bit too easily to her new status, but still maintained a natural reserve about her role and ability to help in this war. Arland was a steady, calming presence beside her, supportive and patient, but I did find the speed with which he fell in love with Kate too much: where Kate had been dreaming of him for years and was easy to accept her falling for him, he did not have any prior knowledge of her to justify his falling in love with her as fast as he did. But by that time I was too engrossed in the plot to overly mind. The plot twists kept me reading earnestly, while I really appreciated the fact that the writer managed to convey the starkness of the land and the terror caused by the various dragons, without going into lengthy descriptions that would have tired me and caused me to start skipping pages.Minor quibles aside, this was a fast paced, action filled fantasy with an intriguing plot, likable characters and many twists to keep readers enthralled. It is not a flawless book; in fact there are a few holes in the plot, the tension was built mainly via the withholding of information from both the main heroine and the reader, and most secondary characters are two-dimensional. However, I enjoyed reading every single page of it and found myself unwilling to put it down, even if it meant giving up an hour or two of my beauty sleep. And I intend to start on the second book as of right now:)ARC provided by NetGalley Originally posted at my book blog at http://concisebookreviewsbymichelle.blogspot.com I give it 4 1/2 stars I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley for my Honest review. Published March 13th 2012 by Curiosity Quills Press I really liked Wilde’s Fire. It was a pleasant mix of sci-fi and fantasy that I really enjoyed. Katriona (Kate) Wilde gets transported to another world through a portal, that Kate, and her best friend and sister were lead to during a camping trip. Its great how you start off in the middle of the usual teen drama, then the next minutes your in a whole new world with war, and darkness and unimaginable horrors! Kate is amazing, she is brave and open-minded, as well as caring and very loyal. Arland is quite dashing, as a other-worldly warrior/leader, that has a great heart underneath. It’s a very unique and a refreshing story. I am anxious now to read book 2 Wilde's Army (review of it coming soon too!) I highly recommend if you like the fantasy/sci-fi books. Paranormal book lovers will love this too. Summary from Goodreads: “There is no pain in this death, only peace, knowing I am going to die with the one I love the most.”—Katriona Wilde. Katriona Wilde has never wondered what it would feel like to have everything she’s ever known and loved ripped away, but she is about to find out. When she inadvertently leads her sister and best friend through a portal into a world she’s dreamed of for six years, she finds herself faced with more than just the frightening creatures in front of her. Kate’s forced to accept a new truth: her entire life has been a lie, and those closest to her have betrayed her. What’s worse, she has no control over her new future, and it’s full of magic and horrors from which nightmares are made. Will Kate discover and learn to control who she really is in time to save the ones she loves, or will all be lost? This is book 1 of Darkness Falls. Katriona (Kate) is on a hiking/camping trip with her best friend Brad and her younger sister Brit. They discover an underwater cave and end up in a portal to a parallel universe. Kate is able to push her sister back through the portal to safety but Brad gets attacked by a coscartha. They get rescued by the natives and taken back to the base. It turns out Kate is in a land called Encardia. Kate discovers that she was born in Encardia and that she is part of a prophecy that includes a man named Arland that she has dreamed about for 6 years. In these dreams/nightmares they are deeply in love and he usually ends up dying. She feels an immediate attraction to him that stems from the dreams. Arland also has a prophecy that includes being a protector to Kate. She also learns that she has been promised to a Ground Dweller named Perth. Arland & Kare must get Kates mother and Brit back into Encardia to help heal Brad so they can return him to his home. Kate will also have to save Encardia from the daemons that are killing the people and engulfing the land in total darkness. I didn't want to give away too much of the story as it would contain spoilers. The cover is beautiful and was what prompted me to read this book. I really liked the concept of this parallel universe and the author did a great job bringing it to life in this book. I enjoyed these characters, especially Flanna and Brit. I thought all the characters were quite well developed, flaws and all! I can't wait to see what happens in the next book which is already on my kindle for me to read! I received this ebook free from the publisher, Curiosity Quills Press, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. no reviews | add a review
