This is a cute story that is part if the Godmothers series. The story is about a woman and her friends who go to Time Square on New Years Eve. She is separated from her friends as the clock strikes midnight. She is kissed by the man standing next to her. The decide to go get something to eat and they talk most of the night. They make plans to meet again but Lucie decides that with her current job and getting ready to open her own restaurant she is too busy for a relationship and does not go to meet him. Several months later, Aren, who is a food critic, is assigned to review a restaurant. Because of the Godmothers and their antics Aren had a bad meal and gave it a bad review. Because software so many phone calls saying the critic was wrong his editor sent him to review it again and that is when Aren finds that the chef is the woman he kissed in New Years Eve. As usual the Godmothers are up to their mischief trying to get these two together. It is a quick read and a cute story

This is a cute little book, but certainly not an original idea. It reminded me a lot of a Hallmark made-for-TV movie, which is where I prefer these kinds of stories...on my TV. There's something about seeing a sweet love story unfold on my screen that lacked a bit in this story. ( )

Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy return with an apprentice angel named Will in tow. Of course Gabriel is not informed that the trio have taken Will to New York with them to watch the New Year"s Eve festivities in Times Square. Lucie Farara is in the crowd with her girlfriends who have dragged her out to have some fun. Just before the ball drops, she loses track of her friends and meets Aren Fairchild. When the ball drops - and Will intervenes - they share their first kiss. It seems to be love at first sight and they decide to meet a week later at the top of the Empire State Building after they have both had a chance to figure out if their feelings are real. There is one big problem. Lucie and Aren were supposed to meet, but not for another year. Shirley, Goodness, Mercy and Will have to try and fix this problem while trying very hard to follow the rules, not easy for them. This is a great story to read curled up under a blanket, sipping some hot cocoa, while the snow falls outside. It is sweet and sad and funny. The perfect Christmas treat! ( )

Angels at the Table is another fun holiday story about the three angels, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, and their visit to New York City on New Year's Eve. They bring along an apprentice angel, Will, (from the Bible - "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever) and meddle in a love affair between two strangers who meet in Times Square. Funny, silly and satisfying, this story is highly recommended for all fans of the angels. ( )

Shirley, Goodness and Mercy return this year, with an apprentice angel in tow. This time, the angels positively influence the lives of Lucie and Aren in New York City, with only slight miscommunication and mischief. I always enjoy these quick holiday reads by Macomber and seek them out every year! ( )

Book description
In this joyous and whimsical holiday novel, Debbie Macomber rings in the season with the return of Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy, delivering laughs, love, and a charming dose of angelic intervention.

Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy know that an angel’s work is never done, especially during a time as wondrous as New Year’s Eve. With an apprentice angel, Will, under their wings, they descend upon Times Square in New York City eager to join in the festivities. And when Will spies two lonely strangers in the crowd, he decides midnight is the perfect time to lend a heavenly helping hand.

Lucie Farrara and Aren Fairchild meet after bumping into each other—seemingly by accident—in Times Square on New Year’s Eve. They immediately hit it off and find they have a lot in common: Lucie is a burgeoning chef and Aren is a respected food critic. But just as quickly as they’re brought together, another twist of fate tears them apart, leaving Lucie and Aren with no way to reconnect.

A year later, Lucie is the head chef of an acclaimed new restaurant and Aren is a successful columnist for a major New York newspaper. For all the time that’s passed, the two have not forgotten their one serendipitous evening—and neither have Shirley, Goodness, Mercy, and Will. To reunite the young couple, the angels cook up a brilliant plan: mix true love, a second chance, and a generous sprinkle of mischief to create an unforgettable Christmas miracle.
