I just purchased this book online with the intent to make the kimono on the front cover for a baby gift. The book is beautiful and has a lot of charming patterns for infants up to 12 months. I wasn't aware that all of the patterns use a relatively heavy yarn for babies. I would prefer some patterns in a sportweight. I'm not so sure I like the bulky look on a baby but I can see that the garments will knit up quickly in these gauges. The recommended yarns, being organic, are expensive. I figured the sweater on the front cover would cost about $40 in the recommended yarn for a size 12 mo, not including the purchase of the book. All the sweaters are done in pieces, as opposed to circular/organic. Not my favorite way to knit but I'll do it for an incredibly sweet (and small) garment.

There is a clever pattern for a nursing mother's sweater.

I'm glad I added this book to my library. ( )

This inspired collection of patterns for mother and baby includes designs for use with organically grown, undyed yarns. The projects, designed for beginning to average knitters, include: accessories such as booties, mittens, hats, and simple knitted toys; a cot blanket, an adorable dress, a chunky jacket, a kimono sweater for a baby; and wonderful, cozy items for mothers such as an unusual "bump" sweater for pregnant women, nursing sweaters that are convenient and stylish, and herb-scented pillows.… (more)
