I really liked Matthew Iden's Sword of Kings, so when I realised he'd written a couple more fantasy shorts, I made sure to get them when I could. Seven Into the Bleak, like Sword of Kings, takes a fantasy trope and re-examines it: in this case, the idea of endlessly crawling through dark caverns. What if the way out wasn't days or weeks away, but years?

To say anymore would spoil it, but I definitely enjoyed it. The ending is perfect for the story -- it didn't surprise me, but it did fit so very well. ( )
