I am a Space 1889 fan, and have admired those who have struggled to keep the gamesystem and mythos alive. It is not easy to do so when this steampunk based roleplaying system was not the most popular, nor is this view of a Steampunk society the most accepted.

Frankham-Allen tries and unfortunately in my estimation, fails. Perhaps because he does not focus on the matters he places in front of us. Perhaps because he decides as the writer-god, that some areas of his physics applies to his heroes and some areas do not. Perhaps because the way he takes his protagonists from frying pan to fire is too far-fetched, or perhaps because his Star Trek like away time is abandoned and not supported to meet their fate yet somehow can decide within the British System to walk about the Moon finding air on an airless planet and live, when all others would say this was certain death.

A may have a different view of how these books should have had foundation in the 1889 universe, since we have other documentation that tells us what this is supposed to be. Frankhan-Allen should have used those as well as some understanding of the british navy to build his work. I want to read more about this universe yet I do not believe that I have been convinced to do so. Average at best. ( )
