Undercover FBI agent Dash Bad Horse, coming out the other side of a long self-destructive descent into hell, has been made mincemeat of by his mother's killer but is still determined to get payback even with his jaw wired shut, leaving him little attention to pay to Red Crow embracing the light and shutting down criminal activities. There's a corrupt sheriff with roughly the same idea and a lot of people who won't stand for it and the walls will be painted red. Penultimate volume of this brutal crime epic. You won't want to start here but you'll definitely want to get here. ( )

Grande preparação para a recta final. Uma maravilha que não se permite ceder a fórmulas repetidas. ( )

War breaks out on the reservation as Red Crow loses his grip on the power and Dash Bad Horse faces his worst enemy yet. It's dark, it's gruesome, it's violent and cruel, it hits you in the stomach and, before you have caught your breath, comes back and punches you again. It's about humans, trying to survive in the harshest of worlds, desperately clinging to some ideal that they've half forgotten, partially due to an all-encompassing cynicism and partially due to their own growing coldness, but humans at the core, hurt again and again by their hope for something good that, seemingly inevitably, always turns to bad. It's a story that won't leave you alone for a long time after you've closed its pages. It's one of the best examples of noir I have ever encountered and I can only hope I encounter something as good again. ( )

"The battle of Prairie Rose. In the dust and dirt of the Prairie Rose reservation, Chief Lincoln Red Crow built an empire. Now he's going to burn it all down. After decades spent selling darkness to the people he once swore to protect, Red Crow's seen the light. And he's made a declaration that his associates - even his lethal, loyal bodyguard Shunka - can't abide: stop all drug dealing and gangbanging immediately or die at his hand. But in the next county over, a similar change of heart has turned a crooked sheriff straight. Way he sees it, there's no better place to start cleaning up than by taking down Red Cloud himself - even if that means disrupting the FBI's best-laid plans to do the same. Between them all stands agent Dash Bad Horse. Badly wounded, he's lost his voice but found the secret he's been looking for: the identity of the man who killed his mother, the crime that started it all. These men are about to go to war for the soul of the rez. Once they knuckle up, there's no telling who's going down" -- p. [4] of cover.… (more)
