“Tractor” by Machines at Work is a future farmer’s dream book. Each page contains come to life illustrations of real tractors and farm equipment. Additionally, each page features a different piece of farm machinery. For example, “harvest time” is all about combines and “Bale it up” is all about balers. The language is catchy with descriptions such as “buzz, whirr, chomp”; however, the text is informative and educational with age appropriate word choice. Clearly the writing is engaging and organized. Another great feature is that the book has a glossary and an index. This is helpful in learning academic skill to young readers. Having three boys of my own, I have no doubt this is a quick favorite that will be read over and over again. The reader will become bored long before the child loses interest in exploring each and every picture endlessly. The big idea is to inform the reader about tractors. ( )
