And what #13 said about buying new books matching, but not so much with the secondhand ones (though I do have two copies of The Tombs of Atuan because I saw a copy that matched the covers of the rest of the series I had after I'd bought a copy)

Given that The Tombs of Atuan may be my favorite book in the series so far, I especially hated how they mangled that whole mythology and Tenar's character. She's some random orphan ... ... loved Tamora Pierce as a kid. I especially loved Alanna because she had red hair. Some other favorites of mine were the Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin (though, I don't really think of the Earthsea cycle as YA) and the Forestwife by Theresa Tomlinson. ... a fantasy novel but, also like the other books, it has its own distinct theme. Tehanu picks up the story of Tenar, from The Tombs of Atuan and the action starts at about the same as that of The Farthest Shore. Since her arrival in Havnor, Tenar has created a life for herself as the wife ... Yup, I'm about 200 pages in and actually slowing down because I like it so much! Ships last night, and so far it's quite good. I'm about 50 pages in, and it seems like a cross between Ursula K. Le Guin's The Tombs of Atuan and the Sevenwaters Trilogy by Juliet Marillier. If A Wizard of Earthsea is a traditional coming-of-age/magical training book, and The Tombs of Atuan is a coming-to-terms with one's beliefs book, The Farthest Shore is a sea journey with a grand quest in the epic tradition. The characters (the ... I originally read them in the wrong order, having found The Tombs of Atuan in the local library, and then gone to look for numbers 1 and 3.
The first time I read Tehanu, I was still more or less in the target age-group for the trilogy: I realized that it didn't gel with the others, and ... 10. The Tombs of Atuan, by Ursula K. LeGuin

Earthsea really does go in order, because it is all one story: A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore, Tehanu, Tales from Earthsea, The Other Wind. (My British publisher insisted on doing the two last in the wrong order, and I'm ... ... Book 1) - Ursula K. Le Guin (F)

(3) The Brief H ... I am easily influenced: bought A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore, and Tehanu at a used book store here on Vashon Island, where I am house/dog sitting. OK, now time to read. Re The Tombs of Atuan (some thoughts taken from my review):
I whipped through this one after finishing (and enjoying) the first installment of the Earthsea series. Overall I did enjoy it very much - again, not life-changing, but a better, tighter book than A Wizard of Earthsea, in my opinion.
... ... Cycle, if you are at all interested in fantasy worlds. The first, A Wizard of Earthsea, focuses on a boy, the second, The Tombs of Atuan, focuses on a girl. I preferred the second because it was more psychological and a little less repetitive, but both are great. I've read Wizard of Earthsea before, but its been about a year. I've got the SFBC omnibus of Wizard of Earthsea, Tombs of Atuan, and the Furthest Shore. The omnibus is on my list of books to read for my 50 book challenge this year, so I'll definitely be sure to put my two cents in on the ... Right now I am just starting The Furthest Shore. I tore through A Wizard of Earthsea and The Tombs of Atuan but then had to wait for this one from the library. I think I have all of the books you mentioned now.

Tigana has wizards, too. It's easy to forget as they are not of the swashbuckling kind. It's a VERY good book.
... I didn't exactly buy them, but today's mail brought two things from BookMooch: The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin and Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquirel. LeGuin's Earthsea series has a great heroine - although she doesn't appear until the second book (Tombs of Atuan).
I'm about 3/4 of the way through The Mists of Avalon, which is a retelling of the King Arthur story from the viewpoint of the female characters. The characters are very well ... Wow, what a fun thread. Ditto to Nat from Witch of Blackbird Pond, Ged (especially endearing in The Tombs of Atuan), Taran from The Prydain Chronicles, and Percy from The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Yes, I thought so too, and maybe thats why - I've waited for it since my first reading of The Tombs of Atuan and then the whole book builds to this wish for them to get together!
