"At the age of fifteen, Howard Harper dedicated his life to reaching Central Asia with the good news of Jesus Christ. Eight years later, in 1953, he sailed with his friend, Colin, from New Zealand to Pakistan, but after less than a year in Pakistan Howard sensed God's calling to study medicine. With little money in his pocket and no confirmed place in medical school, Howard boarded the plane to London. After qualifying as a doctor and married to Monika, Howard made his way back to Pakistan, overland with a caravan in tow. His medical skills opened the door to Central Asia and Afghanistan in particular. In the mid 1960's Howard and his young family moved to Kabul to pioneer a medical program involving work with the blind, relief aid, and an eye hospital.
