This is a wonderful book! Text features are so important to a students comprehension. It is also a part of Non-fiction that often gets over looked and not taught explicitly.

This book provides several lessons for each text feature along with modifications students may need. The lessons are well thought-out and could be put to use in any classroom. ( )

As a teacher who is "piloting" the Common Core this year, I am THRILLED to have been chosen to review this book. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! I love the pre-assessment, which I can imagine using to form Guided Reading groups based upon the features that my students already know and have and those that they do not. The appendices in back are absolutely WONDERFUL. They are filled with extremely meaningful and informative resources. I can't wait to start planning our non-fiction instruction next week, because my teammates are going to love this book and all of the resources as well!! The only thing I wish I had was the CD that accompanies the book for the purpose of giving the pre-assessment with the book provided on the CD. I am going to research options for getting myself one of the CDs. ( )

I've started using this book with my second grade class to teach the features of an informational text and it is wonderful! It covers the standards completely, gives activities with accompanying activity cards or worksheets and is adaptable to all students. I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking for an easy way to teach text features.

Teach K-5 students to read the entire page. This book has features to meet Common Core Standards by explicitly teaching students every element of the page. There are lessons, mini-lessons, examples, assessments and more features. A terrific resource that you can really use. ( )

what got me really hooked , was the lesson plans. Each one is broken down into parts. With Purpose, Prerequisite Skills needed, Materials, Directions, Modifications, Assessment options, and finally technology.

Most of the lesson plans have the charts needed already made (included on ebook, or on a cd with print version) But what I loved is the technology part for each lesson. Being that I am in both Reading and Computer labs, I am constantly trying to integrate one subject into the other. This is all done for me! ( )
