i absolutely love The Brothers Grimm fairy tales. They are so much better than how Disney has portrayed them. Although i don't recommend that you read them to young children. They probably wouldn't understand and may get nightmares and be scarred for life. ( )

Did you know that there is no fairy godmother in the Grimms version of Cinderella? Little Red Riding Hood is known as Little Red Cap and she encounters a wolf twice, one on each trip to her grandmother's house.

The message from most of these stories seems to be 'behave badly and your parents will have you put to death' Violence and abrupt endings that sometimes make no sense makes the name Grimm very fitting. These are certainly not what I remember as a child. Maybe my 2nd grade teacher realized some endings were too graphic and re-wrote them. It is certainly not something I would read to a child as bedtime stories! ( )
