This third volume in Jade Archer's "Contact" series was even better than the first two. We get to see more details about the future “world” Jade Archer is building in this series. And let me tell you, they made my blood run cold.

Jay is a slave who contracted himself out to learn skills valuable for his home planet, just like Lore in the first, and Blade in the second book. Jay, however, is under constant threat from the senior partners of the law firm he works for. Beatings and worse are quite frequent. He starts out as quite the timid, suppressed character. When he’s under threat, though, his enemies better watch out!

Nic is a lawyer in the same firm, and has become Jay’s lover. He has a secret, and when Jay finds out, he thinks the worst. Nic desperately wants Jay back, and will risk anything to redeem himself. I loved how he thought he could do it all himself, only to discover that he needs Jay as much as Jay needs him.

While all these books can be read as standalone stories, I am definitely enjoying the gradual reveal of more details. I liked the depth of this book. There was more of a story, while the focus on the characters was still intense. I can't wait for the next volume, which will be published on December 6.
