This story is the first in what promises to be an exciting new series. This volume features an interesting pairing: that of a werewolf and a snake shifter. Adding to the mystique of the whole situation, Scarlet Hyacinth manages to make the snake shifter very likeable, which I think is quite a feat.

Viktor is a werewolf under pressure. As any macho hero would, he bears it stoically, allowing only his secret thoughts to reflect what he eally wants: a mate, his father and his mate to stop haunting him and a little peace and quiet in the pack.

Kaiden is under as much pressure as Viktor, but his is an entirely different problem. Never having questioned his orders his world is turned upside down when he discovers his latest target for assassination is his mate. He discovers a different jind of honor in following his conscience rather than his supriors, but change isn'.t easy for him

I really liked the idea of an Assassin's Guild mixed up with the "usual" werewolf and pack business. Enough intrigue to keep my attention was mixed with the romance of a werewolf falling in love with his mate. Very nice. ( )
