The story revolves around Gem and Dan Parker, who are a husband and wife landlord team for a pub chain. Their boss has the hots for the beautiful Gem and when she spurns his sleazy advances Gem and Dan find themselves banished to a rural backwater to take over and reopen the "Green Man" pub. Arriving at their new charge in the middle of a sticky, sweltering heat wave, the pair are soon finding themselves succumbing to hot fantasies of lustful threesome sex. With strange new sexual fantasies threatening to overwhelm them, they begin to notice a strange, beautiful, phantasmagorical young man in the nearby forest. Could this man be the source of their new-found obsessions? "The Lord of Summer" is a good wee story and although it is fairly obvious where the tale is heading from reasonably early on, it is written with such style and confidence as to overcome any plotting challenges. The characters of Gem and Dan are nicely developed and well rounded out in a relatively brief period and descriptions of the couple's new home and the surrounding forest are handled with great style and self-assurance – you can almost feel the summer heat shimmering off the page. The sex scenes are skilfully handled with a light and sensual touch, but despite that light touch they are still pretty hot. ( )

Not as good as some of the other Xcite books I've read but also not the worst by far ( )
