This book is so cute. It tells the story of two dogs, Boot and Shoe, and how they do everything together at the same time. They love to sit on the porch, Boot loves to sit on the front porch and Shoe loves the back porch. A squirrel happens to come by and cause problems and the dogs chase the squirrel. The squirrel gets bored and leaves and the dogs can't find each other. Boot and Shoe have only switched porches but they decide to wait until the other comes around. They wait for a long time and they miss each other. They eventually find each other when they need to use their favorite bush.
This is a great book. I love the illustrations. This book can be used to talk about siblings. ( )

Have you ever misplaced your best friend, because a squirrel got all up in your business? Well, that's exactly what happens to Boot and Shoe, two canine best friends, but their reunion is sweet and will get a chuckle or two out of any parent. A beautiful book about two doggie friends. ( )

This story carries a simple and enduring message of family, and the strength of brotherhood. You can be very different from your siblings but still love and worry about them, and you can be separated from family a long time yet still be very happy when you are reunited. The illustrations are mainly focused on the two dogs with simple sketch lines, as well as either black and white only or simple solid colors. The simple nature of the drawings keeps the focus on the storyline and really emphasizes the relationship of the two dogs. I found it particularly interesting that there is no way to tell the difference between the two dogs because they look exactly alike, which really highlights that the similarities between family members are more important than differences. Children love stories about dogs, and the simple message in readable and interesting text (somewhat written from the point of view of the dogs) will capture their attention. This would be a good story for young children to emphasize the importance of family and will echo the feelings of any child who has ever felt sad on being temporarily separated from a family member. The happy message of eventually being peacefully reunited is positive and inspiring.
